On 17th June 2015 in conjunction with Renewal Company of Madrid, John O’Reilly delivered a half day Leadership Training course to a senior management team from a large French corporation based in Paris. Please contact John for more information on +353 86 85 23498.
The attendees included 12 senior managers from the European Division of a manufacturing company. The course covered Five Attributes of Leadership identified through the telling of Shackleton’s “Endurance” Expedition 1914 – 1917. The attendees discussed and analysed his leadership qualities and developed a strategy to translate those skills into improved team work in their everyday business world.
Learn from “The Boss”
The Endurance Expedition of 1914 – 1917 tells the extraordinary story of determination, endurance and resilience of 28 men, driven to survive by the leadership of Ernest Shackleton. With their ship destroyed, rations depleted, and temperatures as low as -40, he became a source of strength and hope for his team. In a time of crisis, Shackleton kept his team together and as a result, became known as one of history’s truly inspiring leaders.
Turning managers into leaders
Our workshop explores the five characteristics of cohesive, high-performance teams by learning from the life or death dilemmas of Shackleton’s Endurance expedition. These are based on the ideas of Patrick Lencioni and the Table Group in the area of Organisational Health.
How is the workshop delivered?
The workshop is based on a set of short working discussions, and is most successful when there is a high level of participant engagement.
What will participants learn?
Participants will take away a framework that they can reference to improve their ability to function as a team. This will give their organisation a competitive advantage.
Who will be delivering it?
The workshop will be delivered by Hannah Carney and Associates, specialists in Leadership, Talent and Team Development. Since 2007, Hannah Carney and Associates have built a reputation for enabling individuals and organisations to manage change and foster development. “Shackleton’s story was inspiring and moving and John’s course was a great opportunity to explore the extraordinary leadership qualities that Shackleton displayed in an extremely challenging and gruelling situation. We considered what we might have done differently; we discussed the characteristics of great leaders and how those attributes could help us get through a crisis. Finally, we considered which leaders had influenced us in our own lives, how we personally dealt with a crisis and what changes we would make in our own lives so that we are better able to handle a crisis. I would thoroughly recommend this course.”
“I found the format very well put together and the slide show brief and interesting with the photos. I enjoyed the coffee break in the middle of the afternoon, as it gave everyone time to mingle over a cuppa. I think the location of the exhibition and the location of the Yacht club for the afternoon session were fantastic.”
